Stynes signs for $375,000
Reds utilityman Chris Stynes avoided salary arbitration or getting released by signing a one-year, $375,000 contract.
Stynes was the first of several arbitration-eligible players the Reds will try to sign. The alternatives are going to arbitration, which almost guarantees big pay raises, or cutting the player by refusing to offer him a contract.
Other arbitration-eligible Reds are Cameron, Reese, Young, outfielders Michael Tucker and Mark Sweeney and pitchers Steve Parris, Scott Sullivan, Ron Villone and Gabe White.
Stynes played second base, shortstop, third base and outfield, hitting .239 in 73 games.
