Cardinals interested in Vaughn
DANA POINT, Calif. The St. Louis Cardinals have an interest in free agent outfielder Greg Vaughn, General Manager Walt Jocketty said.
Jocketty said he plans to talk with agent Eric Goldschmidt about Vaughn, who hit .247 with 45 homers and 118 RBI for the Reds last season.
Vaughn, 34, is the premier power hitter on the free-agent market. He hit 50 homers and drove in 119 runs for San Diego two years ago.
I don't know if we can afford him, but we like him, Jocketty said. We're going to talk to him.
The Cardinals, who finished fourth in the National League Central with a 75-86 record this season, are among several clubs pursuing a trade for Seattle outfielder Ken Griffey Jr.
