Phillies sign Rose Jr.

Contract is for minors only

PHILADELPHIA — Pete Rose Jr. has signed a minor-league contract with the Philadelphia Phillies, joining the organization his father helped lead to its only World Series championship in 1980.

Rose Jr., who turns 30 this month, will play third base at Double-A Reading. He will not be invited to spring training with the Phillies.

This will be the seventh big-league system for the son of baseball's career hits leader. Rose Jr. previously spent time with Cincinnati, Baltimore, Pittsburgh, Los Angeles, Cleveland and the Chicago White Sox.
