Marge Schott's official statement
It is a bittersweet irony that on this day when I am compelled to sell my controlling interest in the Cincinnati Reds, the team sits on the cusp of going all the way once again. It brings back memories of our past run to the World Series, and it is my sincere hope that history will repeat itself.
I want the people of Cincinnati and all the Reds fans to know that I always tried to do the best for them and the team. The Reds have been the primary focus of my life over the last 15 years and it is hard to let go, especially now with the team doing so well.
There were many people during my time in baseball: all the wonderful players, they were like sons to me, and their beautiful wives; fellow owners who know the thrill of owning a team; the sportswriters; and, of course, the fans, who have all shared the great many memories, which I will cherish all the days of my life. The fans and the children who came to the stadium meant everything to me.
I would like to wish Carl Lindner and all the limited owners all the same success that I was privileged to enjoy.
