Scouting report: Reds at Expos




        • The series: Reds (73-52) (second place in the National League Central) vs. Montreal Expos (52-73, fourth place in the NL East).

        • Where: Olympic Stadium, Montreal.

        • When: Today, Friday, Saturday at 7:05 p.m., Sunday 1:35p.m.

        • Radio: WLW-AM (700).

        • TV: Fox Sports Net Ohio today, Saturday and Sunday.

At the plate
        Vladimir Guerrero is one of the hottest hitters in baseball. He took a 29-game hitting streak into Thursday night's game against St. Louis. Overall, he was hitting .306, with 30 home runs and 94 RBI heading into Thursday's game.

        Rondell White (.315, 17 HRs, 48 RBI) is also having a good year. Second baseman Jose Vidro is hitting .324, with 12 homers and 53 RBI. Catcher Chris Widger is hitting .284, with 13 HRs and 49 RBI.

On the mound
        • Today: RHP Juan Guzman (3-1, 2.32) vs. RHP Mike Thurman (5-9, 4.33)

        • Friday: LHP Ron Villone (6-4, 4.01) vs. RHP Dustin Hermanson (5-11, 4.78).

        • Saturday: RHP Brett Tomko (4-7, 5.03) vs. RHP Dan Smith (4-6, 5.27)

        • Sunday: RHP Pete Harnisch (13-7, 3.47) vs. RHP Javier Vazquez (6-6, 5.61)

        The key is getting the lead before getting to closer Ugueth Urbina. He is 6-5 with 28 saves and a 3.75 ERA. Opponents are hitting only .205 against him.

Outlook
        The Reds took two of three from the Expos last weekend.

        These games are essential because Atlanta comes to Cincinnati Monday for a three-game series.
