Extra-inning streak rare
BY CHRIS HAFT

LOS ANGELES As the Reds' recent games stretched longer and longer, they came close to stretching the boundaries of history.
Cincinnati's four-game road winning streak, with all four wins coming in their last at-bat and the last three in extra innings, prompted a scramble for the record books, which uncovered these facts:
The last time the Reds played three consecutive extra-inning games was May 5-7, 1980. They lost to the New York Mets 4-3 before posting 12-10 and 3-2 victories.
The last time the Reds won three extra-inning games in a row was Aug. 22-23, 1926. They topped Boston in a doubleheader, 4-3 and 7-6, before nipping the New York Giants 7-6.
No other team has won three extra-inning games in a row on the road since Baltimore did so June 23-25, 1991.
The last team to play four extra-inning games in a row: the Boston Red Sox in 1996.
