Reds relieved to be hitting road
BY JOHN FAY
The Cincinnati Enquirer
Nothing against the local fans, but the Reds were almost relieved to be hitting the road.
It'll be nice to get off the (artificial) turf, center fielder Mike Cameron said, especially me. The turf here has me beat up.
Right fielder Dmitri Young agreed.
As soon as my feet hit that grass, the aches and pains start to go away, he said.
The Reds will get ample opportunity to heal. Coming off the 12-game, 14-day homestand, the Reds play 18 of their next 21 games on the road. The first 12 are on grass.
After trekking through six time zone changes, the Reds kick off a 10-game, 10-day homestand against Cleveland on June 11. Obviously, it's important to play well on the road.
We're playing great ball, first baseman Sean Casey said. We're winning every series. Hopefully, it will continue on the road.
The Reds have played about the same on the road as they have at home. They are 11-12 at home and 5-6 on the road.
The competition on the trip isn't that great. New York and Kansas City are the only teams with records above .500.
