Big Unit coming

BY CHRIS HAFT
The Cincinnati Enquirer

Feared lefthander Randy Johnson makes his first career start in Cinergy Field on Wednesday in the finale of the Arizona Diamondbacks' three-game series against the Reds.

The 6-foot-10 Johnson faced Cincinnati last Sept. 7 in Houston, striking out 14 while firing a six-hit shutout to outlast the Reds and Steve Parris, 1-0.

Johnson also received no decision in two 1989 appearances against the Reds as a member of the Expos, pitching an inning in relief at Cincinnati and lasting seven innings (two runs, four hits, seven strikeouts) in Montreal.

Left fielder Greg Vaughn is the only Red who has appreciable experience against Johnson. Vaughn owns a career .206 average (7-for-34) with two homers and six RBI.

Others include Chris Stynes (3-for-7), Brian Johnson (1-for-5), Barry Larkin (1-for-6) and Mike Cameron (0-for-6).
