Bad allergies land Schott in hospital

The Cincinnati Enquirer

Reds owner Marge Schott was admitted to Jewish Hospital on Friday morning for breathing problems blamed on allergies.

Mrs. Schott, 70, was in stable condition Friday and was expected to go home today, hospital spokeswoman Stephanie Savicki said. Schott was undergoing respiratory treatment for “severe, seasonal pollen allergies,” the hospital said in a statement.

Ralph Mitchell, Reds assistant director of communications, said the team had no information beyond what the hospital reported.

Schott announced Tuesday that she had reached a deal to sell most of her shares in the Reds, including the controlling shares, to limited partners Carl Lindner, George Strike and William Reik for $67 million. The deal still needs approval from team owners in June.
