Vaughn hitting 'em where they are
BY CHRIS HAFT

Greg Vaughn's batting average, which rose to .241 with a 2-for-5 effort against the Cubs on Monday, should be even higher.
Last Friday in St. Louis, the Reds slugger drove two balls to the warning track for outs. The next day, he
backed another outfielder against the wall and nearly removed third baseman Fernando Tatis' hand with a line-drive out. Sunday, he hit a scorcher to left field in his final at-bat for another out.
But Vaughn's luck could be improving. His second single Monday scooted under the glove of shortstop Jose Hernandez, who reached it in time to make a play.
He has to take a page from Wee Willie Keeler's book Hit 'em where they ain't, Reds manager Jack McKeon said. Just break a few bats and bloop a few over the infield. The funny thing is, the .300 hitters always seem to get those broken-bat bloops.
Vaughn, who hit 50 home runs for San Diego last season, has two for the Reds this season.
