        • Record: 11-11

        • The arms: Steve Avery allowed only five hits in six innings, but three were home runs. “If he gets his pitches up, he better make sure he gets them way out of the (strike) zone,” manager Jack McKeon said. “Other than that, he did a good job.”

        • The bats: The Reds either were hitting intelligently or swinging slightly behind the fastballs of Tampa Bay starter Bobby Witt. Of their eight hits, four went to the opposite field.

        • The rest: Mark Sweeney and Mike Cameron were caught trying to steal second base, dropping the Reds' stolen-base percentage to .538 (14-of-26).

        • Up next: Tonight against Pittsburgh in Sarasota at 7:05. Steve Parris will face Pittsburgh's Kris Benson.
