Red Sox 6, Reds 5
Reds record: 9-9
The arms: Steve Avery allowed opposing pitcher Pat Rapp to drive in the first run by singling on an 0-2 pitch and ex-Red Darren Lewis homered off Avery. Brian Daubach's three-run homer off John Hudek in the sixth inning broke a 2-2 tie before Keith Mitchell's homer off Mark Thompson in the 11th won it.
The bats: Barry Larkin had a two-run double in the third inning. But that was Cincinnati's only extra-base hit.
The rest: Rookie Scott Williamson and Dennys Reyes each worked an inning, giving them appearances in consecutive games and reflecting the seriousness of their bids to make the team as relievers.
Up next: Today against the Texas Rangers in Port Charlotte, Fla. Steve Parris is scheduled to start against Texas' Rick Helling.
