Tigers 14, Reds 8

        • Reds' record: 8-7

        • The arms: Except for Pete Harnisch, the results were encouraging. Danny Graves and Gabe White, expected to share the closer's duties, combined for three hitless innings. Dennys Reyes was struck in his left bicep by Raul Casanova's fifth-inning line drive but stayed in the game.

        • The bats: Jeff Branson and Chris Stynes, fighting for reserve roles, each stroked a pair of RBI singles. Jon Nunnally hiked his trade value with a two-run double in the sixth inning.

        • The rest: Catcher Brian Johnson and third baseman Aaron Boone had Detroit's Luis Polonia trapped off third base in the second inning, but let him slip off the hook. Second baseman Pokey Reese committed a second-inning error when the ball slipped out of his hand as he prepared to throw to first base on Casanova's grounder.

        • Up next: Today against Pittsburgh in Bradenton, Fla. Brett Tomko will oppose Pittsburgh right-hander Jason Schmidt.

        • Box score:
