Yankees 5, Reds 4
Reds record: 8-6
The arms: Steve Avery's erratic four innings featured eight strikeouts but long home runs by Tino Martinez in the second inning and Shane Spencer in the third. Non-roster rookie Scott Williamson strengthened his bid to claim a bullpen spot by working two scoreless innings. Scott Sullivan and losing pitcher Stan Belinda allowed their first runs of the spring.
The bats: The generous breezes at Ed Smith Stadium helped the deep flies hit by Sean Casey and Mike Cameron carry over the wall for homers.
The rest: John Hudek loosened the knots of a two-on, none-out jam in the eighth inning by picking off ex-Red Jerome Walton at second base. In the 10th, Walton blooped a single off Belinda, moved to second on a groundout, advanced to third on a wild pitch and scored on Alonzo Powell's single.
Up next: Today against the Detroit Tigers at Lakeland, Fla. Pete Harnisch will start.
