Reds 10, Tigers 5
Reds record: 7-2
The arms: Starter Jason Bere made only one big mistake in his four innings, hanging an 0-and-2 curveball that Karim Garcia belted over the right-field fence for a three-run homer.
Former University of Kentucky Wildcat Mark Thompson extended his streak of scoreless innings to five.
The bats: Eddie Taubensee matched Greg Vaughn's three RBI, lining a run-scoring single in the second inning and adding a two-run single in the sixth. But Bere missed a squeeze-play sign in the second inning, causing Taubensee to be thrown out.
I think I'm going to junk the squeeze, McKeon joked, referring to a similar transgression earlier this spring.
The rest: Pokey Reese continued to display marvelous range at second base. He ranged to his left to spear Frank Catalanotto's one-hop, third-inning grounder for a force play, then couldn't quite hold onto Brad Ausmus' fourth-inning liner up the middle.
Up next: Today against Minnesota. Steve Avery faces Twins left-hander Benj Sampson.
