Reds 6, Red Sox 4
Reds' record: 3-1
The arms: Non-roster rookie Scott Williamson struck out the side in the ninth inning, giving him five strikeouts in two innings.
The bats: The Reds notched one hit in their four-run first inning off Red Sox ace Pedro Martinez: Barry Larkin's hit-and-run bouncer for a single. Martinez walked three Reds and was betrayed by shortstop Nomar Garciaparra's shocking misplay of Mike Cameron's grounder, which generated two runs. Martinez left after throwing 46 pitches in one inning, as many as Jason Bere used in three.
Up next: A doubleheader against Toronto at Dunedin, Fla. Steve Avery will start the first game against Roy Halladay, with Rob Bell or Marty Janzen facing the Blue Jays' Clayton Andrews in the nightcap.
