Hearty fans make it through

Though Saturday's foul weather and treacherous driving conditions threatened to sabotage Redsfest, team officials were thrilled by the number of fans who did come, which appeared to be several thousand. Estimated attendance for the previous two Redsfests was 15,000.

The team's two-day carnival concludes today at the Convention Center downtown.

“I've talked to people from as far away as Knoxville and Indianapolis and Dayton,” Reds Managing Executive John Allen said. “My hope is (that) we'd like to have more, but longterm, we're trying to establish this as a Cincinnati tradition. This gives me the incentive and motivation to continue. To come out on a day like this and have this kind of turnout is extremely positive.”

Cancelled flights prevented several players and coaches from traveling to Redsfest, including outfielder Reggie Sanders and pitchers Steve Avery and Stan Belinda.
