Reds let Glauber go, claim Myers from KC

The Reds announced Friday that they will not tender a 1999 contract to right-hander Keith Glauber, though they may try to re-sign him to a minor-league deal.
Glauber spent most of this season recovering from arthroscopic surgery he underwent on Oct. 21, 1997, to repair a partial tear in the undersurface of his right rotator cuff. He posted no record and a 2.35 ERA in three relief appearances for the Reds and was 0-1 with a 3.45 ERA in seven games (six starts) for Maryvale of the Arizona Fall League.
The Reds selected Glauber, 26, from the St. Louis Cardinals in the Dec. 1997 Rule 5 draft. Friday's move makes him a free agent eligible to sign with any team.
In other transactions, the Reds on Friday claimed outfielder Roderick Myers off waivers from the Kansas City Royals and signed pitcher John Riedling to a minor-league contract.
Riedling also was invited to the Reds' major-league spring training camp. Pitchers and catchers must report to camp in Sarasota, Fla., on Feb. 16.
Riedling, 23, went 3-10 with a 5.00 ERA in 24 games for the Reds' Double-A Chattanooga affiliate this year.
Myers, 25, has a big-league batting average of .268 with three home runs and 20 RBI during 53 games for Kansas City in 1996 and 1997. He split the 1998 season between Kansas City's Triple-A Omaha and Double-A Wichita affiliates. In 71 games with those two clubs, he hit a combined .221 with four homers and 31 RBI.
