Reds give consent for Dayton minor league team
The Reds conditionally waived their territorial rights to Dayton, a move that Dayton officials said brings the city one step closer to fielding a minor league baseball team in 2000.
John Allen, managing executive of the Reds, said the Reds will waive their rights on condition that at least 20 percent of the Dayton team is owned by minorities.
Hank Stickney, who would own the team, said he has commitment for 20 percent minority ownership, including former Ohio State players Archie Griffin, Cris Carter and Jeff Graham.
