The Reds Charles Brewer is Plugged In
Wednesday, March 25, 1998
GAME REPORT
Rangers 9, Reds 4

  • Where: Sarasota, Fla.

  • Reds record: 11-15

  • Winning pitcher: Darren Oliver (3-0)

  • Losing pitcher: Brett Tomko (0-1)

  • The hangers: The Reds pitchers, excellent most of the spring, were not Tuesday. The Rangers pounded out 14 hits including five doubles. All four Reds pitchers - Tomko, Mark Hutton, Gabe White and Jeff Shaw - allowed runs. ''Everybody got the ball up,'' Reds manager Jack McKeon said.

  • The odd line: 1-2-1-1. That belonged to Bret Boone. He tripled in the fifth and then walked his other three times up.

  • The blast: Dmitri Young hit a two-run home run in the ninth. It was his first homer of the spring. Young is hitting .350.

  • Today's game: vs. the Minnesota Twins at Sarasota, Fla., 7:05 p.m., Fox Sports Ohio.

  • Today's starters: LHP Steve Cooke vs. ex-Red Mike Morgan.

  • Tuesday's box score:
