Reds' highlights: Signed out of Indiana University and went on to become the best power hitting lefty in club history . . . Led NL first basemen in fielding from 1951-55 . . . Named to Reds' Hall of Fame in 1962 . . . Hitting coach for Big Red Machine . . . Club's minor-league hitting instructor from 1979-87.
Career highlights: In 15 seasons with four clubs, hit .298 with 279 homers and 1,028 RBI while striking out just 365 times . . . After hitting just four homers during 1959 season with Pirates and White Sox, hit three homers with 10 RBI and hit .391 in his only World Series as the Sox lost to the Dodgers in six . . . Four-time All Star. |
